**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, December 17, 2024** – The 29th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) paid tribute to renowned film critic Aruna Vasudev, lauded as the “mother of Asian cinema,” during a special program titled “Remembering Aruna Vasudev.”

Speakers highlighted Vasudev’s pioneering role in promoting Asian cinema globally, overcoming significant cultural and gender barriers. Bina Paul, film editor and former vice chairperson of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, emphasized Vasudev’s impact during a time when women were underrepresented in the film industry. She noted Vasudev’s extensive travels and insightful work in bridging the gap between Asian cinema and international audiences, combating Western biases and highlighting the region’s rich cinematic heritage.

Kerala Chalachitra Academy chairman Prem Kumar further emphasized Vasudev’s significant contributions through her authoritative writings. He also underscored the challenges she faced entering a male-dominated field. The event also included tributes from members of the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC). The festival celebrated Vasudev’s lasting legacy and her unwavering dedication to elevating Asian cinema to a global stage and promoting greater inclusivity for women in the industry.
