Tue Dec 17 16:11:40 UTC 2024: ## Pakistan Spinners Stun South Africa in Paarl ODI
**Paarl, South Africa:** Pakistan’s spinners, Salman Agha and Abrar Ahmed, orchestrated a stunning collapse in South Africa’s innings, restricting the hosts to 239/9 in the first ODI at Boland Park. Despite a strong start and a crucial 86 from Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa’s batting faltered twice, preventing them from capitalizing on a promising beginning.
South Africa’s openers, Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton, provided a brisk 70-run partnership in the first ten overs, regularly finding the boundary against Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah. However, the introduction of spin changed the game dramatically. Agha, in particular, wreaked havoc, claiming four wickets for 32 runs, including a double-wicket maiden that removed both de Zorzi (36) and Rickelton (36). His accurate arm ball proved particularly effective, also dismissing Rassie van der Dussen and Tristan Stubbs in a single over.
Klaasen and Aiden Markram (33) then steadied the innings with a 73-run partnership. Klaasen, in particular, played an aggressive innings, hitting several boundaries and a six. However, the South African resurgence was cut short by Saim Ayub’s dismissal of Markram. A further half-century stand between Klaasen and Marco Jansen (10) continued the fightback, but Abrar Ahmed’s double strike removed Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo in quick succession. Klaasen’s eventual dismissal, bowled by Shaheen Afridi in the 45th over, for 86, effectively ended South Africa’s hopes of a larger total.
Kagiso Rabada’s late contribution of 11 runs, along with a ninth-wicket stand with Ottneil Baartman, added some late fight. But the impactful spells from Agha and Abrar ultimately left South Africa with a challenging, but defendable, total.
