Tue Dec 17 02:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Chetan Bhagat’s New Non-Fiction Book Offers 11 Rules for Navigating Modern India

**Bengaluru, December 17, 2024** – Twenty years after his debut novel, bestselling author Chetan Bhagat has released a new non-fiction book, “11 Rules for Life: Secrets to Level Up.” The book, launched at the Bangalore Literature Festival, offers insights into navigating contemporary Indian society, drawing on Bhagat’s personal experiences.

Bhagat’s analysis stratifies Indian society into three classes: a top 1% with inherent talent, a 10% upper-middle class with access to opportunities, and the remaining 90% striving for social mobility. He highlights the unique challenges faced by this large majority, emphasizing the lack of an English equivalent for the Hindi word “aukaat” (social standing) to illustrate the deeply ingrained nature of class in India.

While acknowledging the complexities of social mobility, Bhagat argues that improvements are possible. He emphasizes the importance of English proficiency, holistic fitness (including diet and sleep), and long-term personal development, urging readers to avoid fleeting pleasures from social media. He also candidly addresses the trade-offs between passion-driven careers and financial stability, noting that pursuing passions often comes at a cost.

Bhagat, speaking at a session with journalist Anuradha SenGupta, reflected on his own journey, describing himself as a “rat with its tail on fire” in his pursuit of validation. His book aims to provide practical advice and a nuanced understanding of the social landscape for young Indians.
