**Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu –** A 101-year-old farmer, A. Sivaprakasam, was celebrated by members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Pathugappu Sangam on Tuesday for his lifelong dedication to agriculture and organic farming. Mr. Sivaprakasam, from Aachalpudhur village near Sirkazhi, began his life as an agricultural labourer after completing only fifth grade. He now manages 15 acres of farmland, employing organic methods and value-added production.
Despite his age, Mr. Sivaprakasam remains active, managing his farm’s accounts and serving as an inspiration to younger generations of farmers. His son, S. Thanga Sabha, noted the family’s commitment to organic farming. Mr. Sivaprakasam’s family includes two sons, two daughters, ten grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. His remarkable health and vitality were highlighted by his own statement, “My body feels a little tired, but my mind is strong. I hope to live another five years without issues.”
The milestone birthday was marked with a cake-cutting ceremony, honoring his commitment to both agriculture and a simple life. His dedication continues to inspire the farming community.
