**Mumbai, India –** India’s women’s cricket team secured a resounding victory over the West Indies in the first T20I of their three-match series on Sunday. Team India triumphed by a convincing 49 runs, setting a challenging target of 196 runs.
Jemimah Rodrigues starred for India, smashing a Player-of-the-Match winning 73 runs off just 35 balls, including nine fours and two sixes. Smriti Mandhana also contributed significantly with a half-century (54 runs off 33 balls). Other notable contributions came from Uma Chetry (24), Richa Ghosh (20), and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (13*).
The West Indies, despite a fighting innings of 52 from Deandra Dottin and 49 from Queen Joseph, were unable to chase down the target, finishing on 146/7. India’s bowling attack proved too strong, with Titas Sadhu taking 3 wickets and Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav each claiming 2.
This win gives India a 1-0 lead in the series. The second T20I is scheduled for December 17th, also at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
