**Bengaluru, India** – The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction concluded today at the ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru, with all five teams completing their 18-player squads. The auction saw spirited bidding for 120 players (91 Indian and 29 overseas), with a base price ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh.
Gujarat Giants emerged as the biggest spenders, securing the most expensive player of the auction, Simran Sheikh, for a whopping ₹1.90 crore. Sheikh also claimed the title of the most expensive uncapped and Indian player of the auction. The Giants also acquired West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin for ₹1.70 crore, making her the most expensive overseas player of the auction.
While 13-year-old left-arm fast bowler Anshu Nagar did not find a buyer, Mumbai Indians invested heavily in 16-year-old all-rounder G Kamalini, spending ₹1.60 crore on her.
Smriti Mandhana remains the most expensive player in WPL history, having been bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹3.40 crore in the 2023 auction. Similarly, Ashleigh Gardner (Gujarat Giants) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (Mumbai Indians) retain their title as the most expensive overseas players, having been acquired for ₹3.20 crore each in 2023.
Each team had a budget of ₹15 crore to build their squad, including a maximum of six overseas players. Teams were permitted to retain players from previous seasons, with the retained players’ cost deducted from their overall budget. Gujarat Giants entered the auction with the largest purse (₹4.4 crore), while Delhi Capitals, the 2023 and 2024 runners-up, had the smallest remaining purse (₹2.5 crore). The auction successfully filled all team slots, creating anticipation for the upcoming WPL season.
