**Bengaluru, December 16** – Mumbai clinched their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) title on Friday, defeating Madhya Pradesh by six wickets in a thrilling final match. The SMAT, a premier Indian domestic T20 tournament, has been a breeding ground for top-tier batting talent since its inception in 2006-07. This year’s victory marks Mumbai’s second championship win, joining Tamil Nadu (three titles), Karnataka, Gujarat, and Baroda (two titles each) as the most successful teams in the tournament’s history. Tamil Nadu won the inaugural SMAT in 2006-07. The tournament, originally known as the Inter-State T20 Tournament, has seen a consistent rise in quality over its 16 seasons.
