**CHENNAI, December 16, 2024** – Construction of Chennai Metro Rail’s ambitious 27-story Central Tower is set to begin soon. Renaatus Projects, the lowest bidder, will undertake the ₹562 crore project, which will transform the Poonamallee High Road area. The 119-meter-tall tower will include retail space, a multiplex, office space, and a rooftop hotel, and will serve as a major transportation hub.

The project, initially envisioned as a 33-story building, has been scaled down after design revisions. The final plan includes four floors of retail and multiplex space, 20 floors of office space, one service floor, and two floors dedicated to a hotel. A large four-level parking facility, capable of accommodating 586 cars and 1,652 two-wheelers, is already complete.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials have announced that they will soon apply for environmental clearance. The tower is intended to be a landmark development, similar to Trafalgar Square, Times Square, and Red Square, creating a vibrant public space near Chennai Central Station. The adjacent Central Square, with its pedestrian plaza and subways, was inaugurated two years ago. The Central Tower is expected to be completed within a few years.
