**KOCHI, December 16, 2024** – AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal has voiced serious concerns about the shrinking space for media freedom in India. Speaking at the Ernakulam Press Club’s 56th foundation day celebration on Sunday, he asserted that current restrictions on the press surpass even those imposed during the Emergency.

Venugopal accused both the central and state governments of adopting an anti-press stance, citing instances of journalists being barred from the state secretariat and facing ED scrutiny for critical reporting. He commended journalists for persevering despite these threats, while cautioning against journalism that compromises its credibility. The Ernakulam Press Club president, R. Gopakumar, presided over the event.
