Mon Dec 16 04:58:09 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Swears in 39-Member Cabinet in Nagpur

**Nagpur, Maharashtra –** Maharashtra’s new government, a coalition of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, was formally constituted on Sunday with the swearing-in of 39 MLAs. The ceremony, held in Nagpur, saw 33 appointed as Cabinet ministers and six as Ministers of State.

The BJP, the largest party in the coalition, secured the lion’s share of ministerial berths, claiming 16 Cabinet positions and 3 Minister of State positions. The Shiv Sena received nine Cabinet and two Minister of State positions, while the NCP secured eight Cabinet and one Minister of State positions.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, sworn in on December 5th alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, is expected to retain the crucial Home portfolio.

Notable inclusions in the Cabinet include several returning Shiv Sena members such as Uday Samant, Gulabrao Patil, Dada Bhuse, and Sanjay Rathod. However, several prominent Shiv Sena members were notably excluded from the new cabinet.

The portfolio distribution is anticipated to largely resemble the previous Mahayuti government’s allocation, with the Shiv Sena gaining a single additional ministry. Key departments like revenue, education, power, and irrigation are expected to remain under BJP control, while the NCP is likely to continue managing finance, cooperatives, agriculture, and sports. A full list of ministers is available in the original report.
