**Chennai, December 16, 2024** – A free medical camp for laborers working at Chennai’s British-era Netaji Market was inaugurated on Sunday by G. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). The day-long event, organized by the local voluntary organization Thalaimurai Peravai, offered a range of services including general check-ups, cardiac and dental evaluations, orthopedic assessments, and Siddha and Ayurveda treatments. Free medicines were also distributed.
Individuals requiring advanced medical care were referred to Sri Narayani Hospital, where they can receive subsidized treatment through a partnership between Thalaimurai Peravai and the hospital. The event was presided over by G.V. Selvam, VIT vice-president, and N. Balaji, director of Sri Narayani Group of Institutions. Representatives from the Vellore All Traders’ Association and Netaji Market Vegetable Merchants’ Association were also in attendance.
