Sun Dec 15 15:36:50 UTC 2024: ## Forced Vasectomies Revealed in Maoist Ranks: Surrendered Cadres Detail Gruesome Practice to Home Minister

**New Delhi** – A disturbing practice within the ranks of the CPI (Maoist) has come to light, with multiple surrendered insurgents revealing that vasectomies are mandatory for cadres wishing to marry. During a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, former Maoists from Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha detailed how senior leaders enforced the procedure, viewing children as a potential distraction and threat to the movement’s loyalty.

One former insurgent from Telangana described undergoing a vasectomy while a member of the CPI (Maoist), only to reverse the procedure after surrendering and subsequently becoming a father. This experience was echoed by others, highlighting the widespread nature of this coercive practice. Markam Dula, a surrendered Maoist from Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, stated that the procedure is mandatory, with leaders aiming to prevent emotional attachments that could weaken the movement. Another former insurgent, Sukanti Mari, recounted her husband’s forced vasectomy before their marriage, only to later lose him in a police encounter.

The revelations underscore the CPI (Maoist)’s stringent control over its members’ personal lives. The movement apparently fears that marriage and family life could lead to defections.

Home Minister Shah expressed satisfaction at the surrendered Maoists’ decision to renounce violence and assured them of government support for their rehabilitation. He appealed to remaining insurgents to lay down their arms, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their reintegration into society. Shah highlighted the various government schemes providing employment opportunities and financial assistance to former Maoists. The surrendered cadres themselves confirmed benefiting from these initiatives, including jobs in the police and private sector, as well as access to bank loans.
