Sun Dec 15 22:31:00 UTC 2024: ## Mayawati Backs Simultaneous Elections, Criticizes Congress and SP

**Lucknow, December 16, 2024** – Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati voiced her support for the Union government’s proposed simultaneous elections bill on Sunday. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, she argued the bill would reduce election expenses and allow uninterrupted public welfare projects. She urged other parties to support the initiative.

Mayawati sharply criticized the Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP), accusing them of hypocrisy on the issue of reservations. She reminded them of their opposition to the bill granting quota in promotions to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) era. She suggested both parties remain silent on the matter in Parliament.

Commenting on the Lok Sabha debate marking 75 years of the Constitution, Mayawati asserted that the Constitution itself hadn’t failed, but rather those in power, due to their “casteist politics and narrow thinking.” She criticized the current BJP government’s resolutions as failing to benefit the people and reiterated her call for including reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

Finally, Mayawati accused both the BJP and Congress of using divisive tactics to distract from core issues like poverty and unemployment, alleging that the BJP, like the Congress before it, abandons its promises once in power.
