Sun Dec 15 16:47:45 UTC 2024: ## India and Moldova Strengthen Ties with Embassy Opening

**New Delhi, December 15, 2024** – India and Moldova celebrated a significant milestone in their bilateral relations with the official inauguration of the Moldovan embassy in New Delhi on Sunday. The event, attended by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihail Popsoi, marked a strengthening of ties between the two nations.

Minister Jaishankar expressed India’s gratitude for Moldova’s crucial assistance during “Operation Ganga,” the 2022 evacuation of thousands of stranded Indian citizens from Ukraine. He also announced India’s intention to open an embassy in Moldova in the near future. Both ministers highlighted a shared vision of global peace and cooperation.

Minister Popsoi emphasized the growing relationship, noting the recent resumption of foreign office consultations after a 21-year gap, a visit by Moldova’s education minister, and the launch of a scholarship program for Indian students. He also highlighted a significant increase in the number of Indian students studying in Moldova and advocated for greater agricultural collaboration, encouraging Indians to sample Moldovan wines.

The inauguration follows a visa waiver agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders, Moldova’s joining of the International Solar Alliance, and a signed agreement to enhance cooperation between the two countries’ foreign service institutes. The Moldovan embassy has been operating in New Delhi for approximately a year, but Sunday’s ceremony marked its formal opening. This is the first Moldovan embassy in India, despite the two countries establishing diplomatic relations in 1992.
