Fri Dec 13 18:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Michigan Quarterback Alex Orji Enters Transfer Portal
**ANN ARBOR, MI** – University of Michigan quarterback Alex Orji has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal, seeking a new opportunity to further his collegiate football career. The 6’3”, 235-pound dual-threat quarterback appeared in 20 games for the Wolverines over his career, starting three this past season.
Orji, who possesses two years of remaining eligibility, showed flashes of brilliance during his time in Ann Arbor. While he excelled as a runner, accumulating 383 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 74 carries, his passing game proved inconsistent. He completed just over half of his 45 pass attempts for a total of 148 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
Despite initially winning the starting quarterback job over Davis Warren, Orji ultimately lost the position after struggling with passing accuracy. His performance in key games, including a notable rushing touchdown against Michigan State, ultimately wasn’t enough to secure his starting role long-term. The arrival of highly-touted 2025 recruit Bryce Underwood is also believed to have factored into his decision.
While Orji’s athleticism was undeniable – he was ranked 13th on Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks List” – his passing inconsistencies ultimately limited his playing time. He often rushed his throws, leading to predictable play and missed opportunities.
“Orji’s Michigan legacy is complicated,” said one sports analyst. “He’s a national champion, but his lack of consistent passing made him one-dimensional.”
Orji will now look to find a program where he can refine his passing skills and contribute more significantly as a dual-threat quarterback. He leaves Michigan with the best wishes of fans and coaches alike.
