**Mumbai, December 14, 2024** – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended his congratulations to 18-year-old D. Gukesh, who on Friday secured the title of youngest ever World Chess Champion at the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 in Singapore. Gukesh defeated China’s Ding Liren in the 14th game to claim victory, surpassing Gary Kasparov’s previous record.

In a social media post, Mr. Fadnavis praised Gukesh’s “marvellous achievement” and its inspirational impact on young people. He shared a video of a phone call where he spoke to the champion, wishing him continued success. The Chief Minister also issued a formal invitation to Gukesh to visit Maharashtra for a celebratory felicitation.
