Fri Dec 13 17:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Nortje Out of Pakistan Series with Toe Fracture, Injury Crisis Deepens for South Africa

**JOHANNESBURG –** South Africa’s fast-bowling woes have deepened with the news that Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I series and the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan. The 31-year-old sustained a fracture to his left big toe during a training session before the first T20I. Scans confirmed the injury, forcing him to miss the series.

Nortje, the highest wicket-taker for South Africa at the recent T20 World Cup, has also opted out of a national contract due to workload management concerns. His absence adds to a growing injury list for the Proteas, which already includes Gerald Coetzee (groin), Nandre Burger (lower back stress fracture), Lungi Ngidi (hip), and Wiaan Mulder (broken finger).

Uncapped all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem, with a strong T20 record of 46 wickets in 60 games, has been called up as Nortje’s replacement. The injury crisis leaves South Africa facing a significant challenge in their bowling attack for the remainder of the Pakistan series.
