Separately, a widespread outage affecting Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram impacted thousands of users in India starting around 11:30 PM on November 11. DownDetector reported over 24,000 complaints regarding WhatsApp, over 33,000 for Instagram, and over 6,000 for Facebook. Meta acknowledged the outage, attributing it to a technical issue and stating they were working to restore service. The outage also affected Facebook Ads Manager and WhatsApp Business API. This marks the latest in a series of outages affecting Meta’s platforms in recent months, coinciding with ongoing regulatory challenges for the company in India. The CCI recently fined Meta INR 213.14 crore for alleged anti-competitive practices.
