Fri Dec 13 14:36:53 UTC 2024: ## ISRO Calls for Increased Investment in Aerodynamic Test Facilities

**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, December 13, 2024** – Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairperson S. Somanath has emphasized the urgent need for significant investment in advanced aerodynamic testing facilities within India. Speaking at the SAROD-2024 symposium in Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Somanath highlighted that current domestic capabilities are insufficient to meet the demands of ambitious projects like the Gaganyaan human spaceflight program.

He revealed that existing ISRO facilities, along with national-level resources, could only fulfill approximately 30% of the Gaganyaan’s testing requirements. The remaining tests had to be outsourced internationally, underscoring the critical gap in India’s infrastructure. Mr. Somanath stressed that establishing industry-level test facilities requires substantial financial commitment.

The ISRO chairperson also stressed the importance of enhancing skills and knowledge in aerodynamics, advocating for stronger collaboration between ISRO, DRDO, CSIR, and academic institutions to build advanced capabilities. The SAROD-2024 symposium, hosted by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, aims to foster this collaboration.
