**NEW DELHI, December 13, 2024** – The ninth annual Jashn-e-Rekhta, a three-day extravaganza celebrating Urdu language, literature, and culture, kicked off today in New Delhi. This year’s festival, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from December 13-15, features over 200 artists and 40+ sessions encompassing poetry recitals, mushairas, storytelling, theatre, discussions, masterclasses, workshops, and musical performances.
Launched in 2015 by the Rekhta Foundation, the festival has grown significantly, attracting a diverse audience nationwide. This year’s expanded format includes seven distinct categories: a cultural extravaganza (Mehfil Khana), art expressions (Dayaar-e-Izhaar), poetry and literature (Bazm-e-Sukhan), a food festival (Aiwan-e-Zaiqa), a book bazaar, a technology, literature, and culture pavilion (Rekhta Pavilion), and a merchandise bazaar.
Highlights include a Sufi evening with Kailash Kher, ghazal performances by Papon, a nostalgic musical journey with Javed Akhtar and Meiyang Chang, and a Sufi symphony dedicated to Sahir Ludhianvi. The festival will also feature a mushaira celebrating Delhi’s poetic legacy, a Kuchipudi dance performance by Pernia Qureshi, and the grand finale of the national Rekhta Baitbaazi competition.
Having expanded internationally to London and Dubai, Jashn-e-Rekhta continues to grow in popularity. This year’s move to a larger venue reflects the festival’s increasing reach and its commitment to providing a comfortable and engaging experience for all attendees.
