**Erode, Tamil Nadu, December 13, 2024** – A Deputy Tahsildar and a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Kanjikovil, Erode district, were arrested on Friday for demanding and accepting a bribe. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department’s Erode detachment apprehended Nallasamy, the Deputy Tahsildar, and Sarathkumar, the VAO, after a sting operation.
The officials allegedly demanded ₹15,000 from an applicant, Dhanasekaran, in exchange for issuing a land ownership document (patta) following a name transfer request. Dhanasekaran, unwilling to pay the bribe after the initial payment, alerted the authorities. A trap was set, and the VAO was caught red-handed accepting the bribe. Subsequently, the Deputy Tahsildar was also arrested. Both officials have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
