Fri Dec 13 15:19:19 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu Government Employees Threaten Mass Protests Over Unfulfilled Demands
**THOOTHUKUDI, December 13, 2024** – The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA) has threatened mass protests if the state government fails to address their key demands, which have remained unfulfilled for 42 months. A. Selvam, general secretary of the TNGEA, made the announcement at the association’s two-day state conference in Thoothukudi on Friday.
Key demands include the reinstatement of the old pension scheme (OPS) in place of the new pension scheme (NPS), a promise made by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin during his opposition campaign. The association also calls for the filling of six lakh vacant government jobs, the restoration of surrendered leave benefits, and the abolition of outsourcing and contract employment. Further demands include a proper time scale pay for 3.5 lakh employees, including noon meal workers and anganwadi staff, and a cashless medical treatment insurance scheme.
Selvam expressed disappointment over the government’s inaction despite the demands being accepted and eight meetings with the Chief Minister. He criticized the Chief Minister’s silence, highlighting the significant role government employees played in bringing the ruling party to power for a sixth term. The TNGEA has declared it has lost faith in the current government and will resort to large-scale protests if their demands are not met.
