Fri Dec 13 17:12:59 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru Techie’s Suicide: In-Laws Flee After Being Named in FIR

**Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh/Bengaluru, Karnataka –** The death of Atul Subhash, a Bengaluru-based techie, has taken a dramatic turn with his mother-in-law and brother-in-law fleeing their home in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. The two are named in a First Information Report (FIR) filed by Bengaluru police, charging them with abetment to suicide, among other offenses.

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows Nisha Singhania, Atul’s mother-in-law, leaving her home late at night on a motorcycle. This follows the filing of the FIR in connection with Subhash’s suicide. His family is demanding justice and strict action against those they hold responsible.

Atul’s lawyer, Dinesh Mishra, revealed that his client earned approximately ₹84,000 per month. A Jaunpur Family Court had ordered him to pay ₹40,000 in child support in July, but this was solely for the child’s expenses and not for his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, who is reportedly financially independent.

While Nikita’s lawyer, Vijay Mishra, stated she had filed a maintenance case against Atul, he expressed bafflement over the suicide and called for a thorough investigation. Nikita’s uncle, also named as an accused, denied any involvement, claiming the divorce case had been ongoing for three years and that their family was innocent. Nikita herself has yet to comment publicly.

Local police confirmed that they have not yet received arrest warrants for Nisha Singhania or the other accused.

The case highlights concerns about the potential misuse of Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, which addresses cruelty by husbands and their relatives towards wives. The Supreme Court has recently expressed concern over its misuse as a tool for personal revenge. Atul’s father, Pawan Kumar, stated that his son had been deeply affected by multiple legal cases filed against him and his family by his daughter-in-law, starting in January 2021. He described his son as internally broken by the constant legal battles. The ongoing investigation will determine the extent of each party’s involvement in the tragic events leading to Atul Subhash’s death.
