Fri Dec 13 00:46:28 UTC 2024: **Infant Found Dead Near Mission Hostel in Eluru; Investigation Underway**

ELURU, INDIA – A newborn baby girl was found dead near a missionary hostel in Ashok Nagar, Eluru, on Sunday morning, sparking a police investigation. A woman living in a nearby apartment discovered the infant’s body and alerted the police. The baby, found in a vacant lot behind the hostel, appeared to have been recently born, with its umbilical cord still attached and blood stains on its body.

The police, along with Women and Child Welfare officials, arrived at the scene and confirmed the baby’s death. A junior inter student residing at the missionary hostel is suspected to be the mother. She was transported to a local hospital after experiencing an apparent medical emergency. The police are questioning the student, her roommates, and hostel authorities. A brother from a nearby missionary center is under suspicion, and police have reportedly taken him into custody.

The police are investigating whether the hostel authorities were aware of the student’s pregnancy and if there was a lack of adequate supervision at the facility. Questions have been raised about why the pregnancy and subsequent delivery went unnoticed by the hostel staff. Preliminary investigations suggest the girl’s roommates may have assisted with the delivery. Aforementioned brother is suspected to have fathered the child.

The Eluru DSP, Sravan Kumar, confirmed that a case has been registered and a thorough investigation is underway, involving the forensic team. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of young women residing in such hostels.
