Fri Dec 13 17:12:29 UTC 2024: ## Deep Depression Weakens Over Mannar Gulf, Heavy Rains in Tamil Nadu
**Chennai, December 13, 2024** – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced today that the deep depression over the Mannar Gulf has weakened into a low-pressure area. The system, which was located over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lankan coast earlier this week, moved to the Mannar Gulf yesterday.
The IMD predicts that the low-pressure area will continue to weaken as it moves towards the Lakshadweep Islands over the next 24 hours.
While the deep depression has weakened, its impact is still being felt across Tamil Nadu. Heavy rains have been reported in 13 districts, including Coimbatore and Madurai. Moderate rainfall is expected to continue in many southern districts and some northern districts, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal, until December 15th.
