**New York, NY** – A 26-year-old former Ivy League student, Luigi Mangione, has been arrested in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Thompson, 50, was shot multiple times outside the New York Hilton Midtown on December 4th while attending an investor conference. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Mangione, a software engineer with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, was apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania on Monday. Police found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm, a silencer, and fraudulent identification documents.
Mangione hails from a prominent Baltimore family, his grandparents being renowned real estate developer Nicholas Mangione and philanthropist Mary C. Mangione. While his LinkedIn profile indicated employment at TrueCar, Inc. for the past four years, the company confirmed that Mangione had not been employed there since 2023.
The arrest comes after a week-long investigation into Thompson’s death. Mangione is currently being held as a suspect in the murder, though charges have yet to be formally filed. The investigation is ongoing.
