**Nassau, Bahamas** – Golf legend Tiger Woods has proposed a radical change to the Ryder Cup, suggesting each American player receive a $5 million (£3.9m) payout, all of which would be donated to charity. This comes after reports revealed that each of the 12 US players will earn $400,000 for competing in the 2025 event at Bethpage Black. Woods, a 15-time major winner, pointed out that the Ryder Cup generates significant revenue and believes a portion should be allocated to charitable causes. He recalled a similar suggestion in 1999 that was misinterpreted by the media. While four-time major champion Rory McIlroy stated he would pay to play for Europe, Woods responded that this was a matter for the European team to decide.
Despite his innovative proposal, Woods remains sidelined by injury. He hasn’t played since The Open in July, failing to make the cut in three consecutive majors. The 48-year-old recently underwent his sixth back surgery, citing persistent pain that spread to his legs. While expressing his continued competitive drive, Woods admitted he’s not yet tournament-ready and is focused on his recovery. He’s currently absent from this week’s Hero World Challenge, an event he hosts in the Bahamas. Only Jack Nicklaus, with 18 major wins, has surpassed Woods’ 15 major championship victories.
