**Bengaluru, India –** S.M. Krishna, a prominent Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning at the age of 92. Krishna had been ailing for some time.
Krishna enjoyed a long and distinguished career in politics, primarily with the Indian National Congress party. He served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004, during which time he played a significant role in developing Bengaluru’s IT sector. He later served as the Governor of Maharashtra from December 2004 to March 2008 and as the Union Minister of External Affairs from 2009 to 2012 under the UPA government.
After nearly five decades with the Congress party, Krishna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2017. He retired from active politics last year. In 2023, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award. His contributions to Indian politics and public service will be remembered.
