**New Delhi:** The Central Government has appointed Sanjay Malhotra, currently the Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). His appointment follows the end of Shaktikanta Das’s term on December 10th. Das, who assumed the governorship in 2018, had his term extended in 2021.
Malhotra, a 1990 batch IAS officer from Rajasthan, is an IIT Kanpur graduate in Computer Science and holds a Masters in Public Policy from Princeton University. He boasts over three decades of experience in various sectors including power, finance, taxation, information technology, and mining. He has played a crucial role in policy formulation related to direct and indirect taxes.
Malhotra will be the 26th Governor of the RBI and will serve a three-year term starting December 11th. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his nomination.
