Tue Dec 10 06:07:56 UTC 2024: ## OpenAI’s Sora Turbo: Text-to-Video AI Goes Mainstream (But With Some Caveats)

**San Francisco, CA** – OpenAI has officially launched Sora Turbo, its highly anticipated text-to-video AI generation tool, making it available to a wider audience after a limited research preview. The tool, accessible through sora.com and integrated into ChatGPT Plus and Pro plans, allows users to transform text prompts into realistic videos up to 20 seconds long in 1080p resolution.

Sora Turbo offers a range of features, including customizable video formats (widescreen, vertical, square), storyboard interfaces for precise frame-by-frame control, and a community showcase for sharing creations. Existing ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers gain access at no extra cost, with Plus users receiving 50 videos per month at 480p and Pro users enjoying higher resolution and increased generation limits. OpenAI plans to introduce flexible pricing options in 2024.

However, the rollout isn’t completely universal. Sora Turbo is currently unavailable in the EU, UK, and Switzerland, and is excluded from ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and Edu plans. Users must also be 18 years or older. OpenAI has implemented safety measures to prevent the creation of harmful content, such as deepfakes, and initially restricts uploads involving human subjects.

This launch positions OpenAI as a major competitor in the rapidly evolving text-to-video AI market, alongside offerings from Meta, Google, and Stability AI. The company emphasizes its commitment to responsible AI development alongside its ambition to drive innovation in this space.
