**NEW DELHI** – OpenAI unveiled its upgraded AI video generator, Sora Turbo, on Monday, offering significantly faster video creation capabilities than its February preview. The new model can produce high-definition videos up to 22 seconds long, directly from text prompts.
While CEO Sam Altman acknowledged the technology is still in its early stages, he expressed confidence in its future development. Sora Turbo is currently available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers, but notably, access is currently unavailable in Europe and the UK. Altman stated OpenAI is working to expand availability to these regions.
ChatGPT Plus subscribers receive access to 50 videos per month at 480p resolution, while Pro subscribers ($200/month) enjoy higher resolution and usage limits. Despite its advancements, Sora Turbo still faces challenges with realistic physics and complex actions, and OpenAI is actively working to improve affordability.
OpenAI has incorporated safeguards to mitigate ethical concerns, including watermarks and metadata verification to deter misuse and deepfake creation. The generation of videos featuring real individuals is currently temporarily restricted.
