**SAN FRANCISCO –** OpenAI has launched Sora Turbo, its highly anticipated text-to-video AI model, to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers. This rollout marks a significant expansion of OpenAI’s multimodal AI capabilities and throws the company directly into competition with industry giants like Meta, Google, and Stability AI in the burgeoning text-to-video market.

Initially unveiled in February as a research preview, Sora Turbo is now widely available, allowing users to generate videos up to 20 seconds long in 1080p resolution. Users can choose from widescreen, vertical, or square formats at no additional cost beyond their existing ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription. The service is currently unavailable in the EU, UK, and Switzerland, but is rolling out to other regions where ChatGPT is active.

Sora Turbo offers several key features, including the ability to create videos from text prompts, remix existing assets, and utilize a new storyboard tool for frame-by-frame control. A dedicated community feed showcases user creations. While ChatGPT Plus users receive up to 50 videos per month at 480p or fewer at 720p, Pro subscribers enjoy ten times the usage, access to higher resolutions, and longer video durations.

OpenAI has emphasized its commitment to responsible AI development, implementing safeguards to prevent the creation and upload of harmful content, including child sexual abuse material and deepfakes. While uploads of people are currently limited, OpenAI plans to expand this feature as its deepfake mitigation technology improves.

The company also announced plans for tailored pricing options for different user types, to be released early next year, suggesting future scalability and potential monetization strategies.
