Tue Dec 10 07:50:58 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Shivers Through Coldest December Day in Nine Years

**Mumbai, December 10, 2024** – Mumbai experienced its coldest December day in nine years on Monday, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 13.7 degrees Celsius at the IMD’s Santacruz station. This is 5.6 degrees below the normal minimum temperature and marks a significant drop after a period of warmer-than-average weather. The last time the city saw such low temperatures was in 2015, when the mercury dipped to 11.4 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes the sudden chill to a shift in wind patterns to predominantly northerly winds, which are cold and dry. Scientist T.S. Neeta of IMD Mumbai explained that this trend is expected to continue for another two to three days, with minimum temperatures remaining below 20 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures, however, are predicted to remain relatively mild, ranging between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. After this period, temperatures are expected to rise as the wind shifts to an easterly direction. Ms. Neeta noted that the city is not experiencing a full winter pattern due to the presence of moisture.

The Colaba observatory recorded a slightly higher minimum temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius. This marks the second-lowest December temperature in Mumbai in the past decade, following a low of 14.4 degrees Celsius in 2018.
