Tue Dec 10 08:37:54 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Shivers Through Second Coldest Morning in Nine Years

**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Mumbai, the city that never sleeps, experienced its second coldest morning in nine years on Monday, with temperatures plummeting to a bone-chilling 13.7°C. This represents a dramatic 3.5°C drop from Sunday’s minimum temperature. The last time Mumbai saw such low temperatures was in December 2015, when the mercury dipped to 11.4°C. While the all-time record low remains at 10.6°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, this week’s cold snap has already sent a shiver through the city.

The unexpected chill follows an unusually warm spell last week, with Sunday morning registering a minimum temperature of 17.2°C – a significant 8°C drop from the previous three days. IMD Mumbai Director Sunil Kamble attributed the fluctuating temperatures to the strength of northerly winds. He forecasts average daytime temperatures around 25°C for the coming week, suggesting the cold snap will be short-lived.

The IMD’s weekly report predicts maximum temperatures between 30°C and 34°C and minimum temperatures ranging from 12°C to 22°C until December 15th. Despite the cold, clear skies and excellent visibility are expected.

However, the sudden drop in temperature has led to a rise in cold-related illnesses. Dr. Padmaja Keskar, Senior Consultant at the Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action, warned of an increase in respiratory diseases, allergies, and viral infections, urging caution, especially among vulnerable populations. The doctor highlighted the increased risk of flu, common cold, and pneumonia due to people spending more time indoors in the colder weather.
