**Mumbai, India –** A BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) bus careened out of control in Kurla, Mumbai on Monday night, resulting in a tragic accident that claimed the lives of at least four people and injured 29 others.
According to Shiv Sena MLA Dilip Lande, the driver panicked and mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake after experiencing brake failure. The bus, route number 332, operating between Kurla and Andheri, lost control near the White House building next to the L Ward office. The speeding bus collided with numerous vehicles and pedestrians, including five to six auto-rickshaws, ten motorcycles, and approximately ten pedestrians. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, comparing it to a terror attack.
One eyewitness, Kapil Singh, recounted the bus hitting an auto-rickshaw initially, before colliding with several other vehicles and pedestrians before finally crashing into the Ambedkar Nagar entry gate.
The driver, Sanjay More, has been arrested. While he claims brake failure caused the accident, some eyewitnesses allege he was intoxicated. A preliminary investigation by state transport department inspector Bharat Jadhav reportedly found the brakes to be in working order. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The driver was apprehended by the angry mob before the police arrived.
