**Kozhikode, Kerala –** Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is facing legal repercussions following a diesel spill at its Elathur depot last week. A police case has been registered against the company under Section 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for negligent conduct with respect to combustible matter. This follows a complaint filed by Elathur division councillor Manoharan Mangariyil on Monday.
The incident, which occurred on December 4th, resulted in approximately 2,000 liters of diesel leaking into an open drain due to a malfunctioning sensor gauge. HPCL has already faced charges under the Factories Act and received a show-cause notice. Local residents assisted HPCL workers in collecting the spilled fuel. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
