Mon Dec 09 18:44:04 UTC 2024: ## Telangana GRP Recovers ₹87 Lakh Worth of Stolen Phones Using CEIR Portal

**Hyderabad, December 10, 2024** – The Telangana Government Railway Police (GRP) has successfully recovered 870 stolen or lost mobile phones valued at ₹87 lakh using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The phones, recovered through a collaborative effort with other state agencies, have been returned to their owners. A significant portion of the recovery, 110 phones worth ₹11 lakh, was returned to railway passengers on Monday alone.

The CEIR portal, launched in Telangana on April 19, 2023, has proven instrumental in assisting GRP and other law enforcement agencies in tracking and recovering stolen or lost mobile devices. Recovered phones include those reported stolen on trains, misplaced by passengers, and those snatched by criminals. The GRP’s success highlights the effectiveness of the portal in combating mobile phone theft.

Superintendent of Railways, G. Chandana Deepti, stated that the recovered phones were traced not only within Telangana but also across other states. The GRP urges citizens to block stolen phones using their IMEI number on the CEIR portal (www.ceir.gov.in). Once a phone is located, it can be unblocked and returned to its rightful owner.
