Mon Dec 09 18:45:03 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Braces for Cold Snap as Temperatures Plummet
**Hyderabad, December 10, 2024** – Hyderabad and surrounding areas in Telangana are expected to experience significantly cooler nights in the coming days, with minimum temperatures predicted to drop to between 8-12 degrees Celsius in some regions. The Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) forecasts that Hyderabad itself could see lows around 15 degrees Celsius.
Senior weather consultant Y.V. Rama Rao attributed the impending cold snap to a shift in weather patterns, offsetting the recent rise in temperatures caused by easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal. This warmer period, characterized by cloudy skies and high humidity, was also influenced by low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal.
The TGDPS reported that several districts, including Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal, Khammam, Hyderabad, and Rangareddy, have already recorded minimum temperatures between 12-14 degrees Celsius. Daytime highs, currently around 32-33 degrees Celsius, are expected to fall to 27-28 degrees in these areas, with Hyderabad seeing highs between 27-30 degrees Celsius.
This cooler weather is expected to last until the second week of January, with only light rain anticipated. The cumulative rainfall in Telangana from June 1st to December 9th has been 104.5 cm, exceeding the normal of 84.9 cm by 23%. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits have also seen above-average rainfall. The winter chill is prompting some residents to seek warmth through measures like roadside campfires.
