**Puducherry, December 9, 2024** – A seven-member inter-ministerial team, dispatched by the Central government, concluded its two-day assessment of damages caused by Cyclone Fengal in Puducherry on Monday. The team split into two groups and inspected 24 affected locations, including Kalapet, Pillaichavady, Krishna Nagar, Rainbow Nagar, and Venkata Nagar.
The assessment included a presentation by District Collector A. Kulothungan, detailing the impact of flooding on people, crops, livestock, and civic infrastructure, as well as the government’s relief efforts. Approximately 15 videos showcasing the cyclone’s impact were shown.
This assessment is intended to support Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s request for ₹600 crore in interim Central assistance to cover losses incurred due to Cyclone Fengal and subsequent flooding from dams in neighboring Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister has already sent letters to the Prime Minister and Home Minister outlining this request.
