**New York, NY** – Brian Thompson, 50, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot in a premeditated attack outside the New York Hilton hotel Wednesday morning. Police have confirmed the shooting appears to be a targeted assassination, though the motive remains unclear.
According to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Thompson was walking to a UnitedHealth Group investor conference when he was approached from behind and shot multiple times. Security footage shows the gunman, described as wearing a black hoodie and pants and carrying a gray backpack, waiting for Thompson before opening fire. The shooter then fled on foot and later on a rental bike, last seen heading towards Central Park.

UnitedHealth Group abruptly ended its investor conference following the incident, releasing a statement expressing deep sadness and shock at the loss of their “highly respected colleague and friend.”
