**Mumbai, December 10, 2024** – A speeding BEST (Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking) bus caused a deadly accident in Mumbai’s Kurla Bhaji Market on Monday night, resulting in three deaths and at least 20 injuries. The 12-meter electric bus, a three-month-old vehicle on wet lease from Olectra Greentech, lost control and plowed into pedestrians and several vehicles before coming to a stop in Buddha Colony.

Police suspect brake failure as the cause of the accident, and the bus driver has been detained. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene with people lying in pools of blood. Two victims died at the scene, and another succumbed to their injuries at Bhabha Hospital, where the injured are receiving treatment. Several victims are reported to be in critical condition.

The bus, registered in August 2024, was traveling from Kurla railway station to Andheri when the incident occurred. The drivers of these buses are supplied by the private operator who leased the vehicle to BEST. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, focusing on potential mechanical failure and driver responsibility. The damaged vehicles and the overall accident scene indicate a serious traffic incident requiring thorough investigation.
