Dubai, UAE – In a stunning upset, Bangladesh defeated India by 59 runs in the U19 Asia Cup final at the Dubai International Stadium. Despite India being the pre-tournament favorites, led by captain Mohamed Amaan, Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling and impressive fielding performance secured a convincing victory.
Bangladesh, batting first, posted a modest 198 runs in 49.1 overs, with Md Rizan Hossan top-scoring on 47. India’s bowlers, Yudhajit Guha, Chetan Sharma, and Hardik Raj, each took two wickets.
However, the Indian batting lineup crumbled under pressure, failing to chase down the seemingly achievable target. A significant collapse saw them reduced to 92/7 in the 27th over. Even captain Amaan’s 26-run contribution couldn’t prevent the downfall, as India was eventually bowled out for 139 in 36 overs. The 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi also underperformed, scoring only 9 runs.
The match was notable not only for the result but also for the fervent support shown by the predominantly Bangladeshi crowd. Loud chants of “Allahu Akbar” resonated throughout the stadium, a spectacle noted by commentators and former cricketers. Bangladesh captain Azizul Hakim Tamim actively encouraged the chants, prompting discussion about the display among commentators like Roshan Abeysinghe and Atul Wassan.
This win marks Bangladesh’s second consecutive U19 Asia Cup title.
