Mon Dec 09 18:49:15 UTC 2024: **Manhunt Intensifies for Suspect in Slaying of UnitedHealthcare CEO**

NEW YORK, NY – Five days after the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan, the manhunt for his killer continues, with law enforcement facing a frustrating lack of key evidence. Police have released new photos of the masked suspect, but the weapon, a bicycle used in the escape, and the suspect’s precise whereabouts remain elusive.

Thompson, 50, was shot at close range on December 4th as he approached the New York Hilton Midtown. The suspect, described as having meticulously planned the attack, fled on an electric bicycle after the shooting. He was later spotted near the George Washington Bridge and the Port Authority Bus Terminal before apparently leaving the city on an interstate bus. Investigators believe he used a Greyhound bus to arrive in New York, possibly originating in Atlanta. The Atlanta Police Department is now assisting in the investigation.

Despite a citywide search, including the thorough combing of Central Park (yielding only a backpack containing Monopoly money and a Tommy Hilfiger jacket, but no weapon), police are still piecing together the events. While facial recognition software and a previously obtained fingerprint proved unhelpful, other evidence, including surveillance footage, shell casings inscribed with the words “delay,” “deny,” and “depose,” a burner phone, a water bottle, and DNA evidence, are being analyzed. The words on the shell casings have led investigators to explore a possible motive linked to criticisms of insurance industry practices.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward, supplemented by a $10,000 reward from the NYPD, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that obtaining a clear photo of the suspect without his mask was challenging, requiring the review of extensive video evidence. One photo shows the suspect checking into an Upper West Side hostel using a fake New Jersey driver’s license.

The killing has sparked concerns among other healthcare executives, prompting increased security measures and the removal of executive photos from some company websites. While the motive remains unclear, police believe the shooting was premeditated and targeted, but there’s no evidence of prior interaction between the suspect and the victim. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities remain confident in apprehending the suspect.
