**Mumbai, India –** A state-run BEST bus crashed into multiple vehicles and pedestrians in Kurla (West), Mumbai on Monday night, resulting in three fatalities and seventeen injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 pm when a red BEST route 332 bus, traveling from Kurla station to Andheri, veered out of control.
Eyewitnesses reported the bus swerved erratically for approximately 200 meters before the collision. The bus, a three-month-old 12-meter electric vehicle on wet lease from Olectra, initially struck an auto-rickshaw and several cars before crashing into the gates of a residential complex. Reports indicate a police vehicle was also involved.
A BEST official suggested brake failure may have been a contributing factor to the accident. The injured were transported to Sion and Kurla Bhabha Hospitals. The driver, employed by the private operator that supplies drivers for these buses, reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The bus, registered in August 2023, was operated by EVEY Trans.
Zaid Ahmed, a local resident, described the chaotic scene, recounting how he and others rushed to assist the injured, transporting some to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
