**Bengaluru, India (December 10, 2024)** – S.M. Krishna, a prominent Indian politician who served as the country’s Foreign Minister and Chief Minister of Karnataka, passed away early this morning at the age of 92. He died at his home in Bengaluru following a prolonged illness attributed to old age.
Krishna held several key positions throughout his long political career. He served as the Foreign Minister in the UPA government from 2009 to 2012, Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004, and Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008. He was also the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from December 1989 to January 1993. In 2023, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honors.
Krishna played a significant role in transforming Bengaluru into India’s IT capital.
