Tue Dec 10 00:31:07 UTC 2024: ## Locals Demand Restart of Nadiad-Modasa Train After Four-Year Hiatus

**Nadiad, Gujarat:** Residents of Nadiad, Kapadvanj, and Modasa are demanding the reinstatement of the passenger train service between these towns, which has been suspended since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The 104.84 km broad-gauge railway line, upgraded from narrow gauge in 2002, serves eight stations, connecting the districts of Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Kheda.

The line, considered a vital link for regional development, was a popular mode of transport before its closure. While many other MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train services have resumed across Gujarat, the Nadiad-Kapadvanj-Modasa route remains inactive, despite the completion of electrification work and successful trials.

Vinodbhai Patel of Kapadvanj highlighted the significant inconvenience faced by commuters, especially women, senior citizens, and students. He emphasized that the affordable fares and increased safety offered by the train would greatly benefit the public and reduce reliance on congested roads. The Nadiad branch line is also a high-revenue generator for the Vadodara division.

The delay in restarting the service is attributed to a lack of coordination between railway authorities and local leadership. The resumption of the train is seen as crucial not only for convenience but also for improving road safety by diverting some traffic away from overburdened highways. The public is urging immediate action to restore this essential transportation link.
