**Bengaluru, India –** Former Karnataka Chief Minister and India’s former External Affairs Minister, S.M. Krishna, passed away at the age of 92 on Tuesday morning. He breathed his last at 2:45 AM at his residence in Bengaluru. Krishna’s death has sent shockwaves across the nation.

Born on May 1, 1932, in Somanahalli village, Mandya district of Karnataka, Krishna, whose full name was Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, had a long and distinguished political career. After completing his schooling in Mysore and law in Bengaluru, he entered politics in 1962, winning the Karnataka Legislative Assembly election as an independent candidate from Mandya.

His political journey saw him rise through the ranks. He served as Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister, and ultimately, Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004. He was also a member of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Krishna’s career extended to the national stage. He served as a member of the Indian delegation to the United Nations in 1982, and held central ministerial portfolios including Minister of State for Industry (1983-84) and Minister of State for Finance (1984-85). After returning to state politics, he became Chief Minister before being appointed as India’s External Affairs Minister under the Manmohan Singh government. He also served as the Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008.

Krishna’s legacy includes significant contributions to infrastructure development during his tenure as Chief Minister and a strong reputation in both state and national politics. His death marks the end of an era for Indian politics.
