**Mumbai, India** – A speeding BEST bus ran amok in Mumbai’s Kurla area on Monday night, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to 26 others. The driver, Sanjay More, who had only joined the BEST undertaking on December 1st, has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The incident occurred around 9:45 PM when the number 332 bus, traveling from Kurla to Andheri, lost control near Buddha Colony in Ambedkar Nagar. The bus plowed into numerous vehicles and pedestrians, even crashing through a society wall. Three men and three women were killed in the accident.
Police have registered a case against More and are investigating whether mechanical failure or driver negligence caused the accident. A medical examination, including a blood alcohol test, has been conducted on More, although police claim he was not under the influence of alcohol.
