Tue Dec 10 07:22:04 UTC 2024: ## Congress Accuses BJP of Distraction Amid Soros-Gandhi Link Allegations

**New Delhi:** A major political row has erupted in India’s Parliament over alleged links between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and American billionaire George Soros. The BJP accused Gandhi of having ties to Soros’s organizations, claiming they aim to destabilize India and support separatist movements in Kashmir. This led to heated exchanges in Parliament on Monday.

The BJP alleges that a foundation associated with Sonia Gandhi receives funding from Soros, who they claim seeks to separate Kashmir from India. Congress, initially appearing defensive, has now launched a counter-offensive.

Congress leader Pawan Khera directly challenged the Modi government on the issue, accusing it of prioritizing its own interests over national ones. Khera tweeted, questioning the government’s inaction regarding Soros and demanding an extradition process. He also raised questions about funding sources for foundations linked to BJP leaders, alleging Chinese funding for organizations such as the India Foundation and the Vivekananda Foundation. He further questioned the ties of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s son to various organizations, including the Aspen Institute and German Marshall Fund.

The BJP’s allegations center around Sonia Gandhi’s role as co-chair of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP), a group the party claims is funded by Soros’s organizations and advocates for an independent Kashmir.

George Soros, a Hungarian-born American financier known for his financial prowess and philanthropy, has been accused in the past of using his wealth to influence governments globally. His past actions, such as his alleged role in the 1992 Black Wednesday crisis that weakened the British pound, fuel the BJP’s accusations. Congress strongly refutes all allegations. The controversy continues to dominate Indian political discourse.
