Mon Dec 09 10:38:19 UTC 2024: **CPI(M) Condemns Mosque Surveys, BJP Propaganda, and Government Inaction on Disaster Relief**

NEW DELHI, Dec 9, 2024 – The CPI(M) Politburo expressed deep concern over a surge in lawsuits nationwide demanding surveys of ancient mosques to investigate potential underlying temple ruins. Following incidents of violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where four Muslim youth were killed after a court ordered a survey of a 16th-century mosque, the party criticized the lack of Supreme Court intervention to halt these litigations, citing the 1991 Places of Worship Act. The party highlighted similar petitions targeting prominent sites like the Ajmer Sharif Dargah.

The Politburo also condemned what it called inflammatory propaganda by the BJP-RSS and Hindutva groups, alleging they are stoking tensions, particularly regarding the situation in Bangladesh where the CPI(M) claims the government is ignoring the activities of Islamist fundamentalist forces. The party reiterated its call for the protection of religious minorities in Bangladesh.

Domestically, the CPI(M) voiced strong support for protesting farmers in Greater Noida, demanding an end to police repression and the fulfillment of farmers’ demands. The party condemned the jailing of approximately 150 farmers who are currently on a hunger strike.

Finally, the Politburo sharply criticized the central government’s delay in releasing funds for disaster relief in Wayanad, Kerala, following devastating landslides. They denounced the refusal to classify the event as a major calamity and the failure to waive loans for affected families. The party stated that this inaction demonstrates a disregard for federal support principles during times of crisis. The Politburo also discussed a draft political resolution for their upcoming party congress.
